Renault Austral has been voted “AUTOBEST 2023” winner, the European accolade for The Best Buy Car of Europe in 2023. With a total of 14.937 points, Renault Austral came in first place by a comfortable distance over the new generation of Opel Astra with 13.986 points. The new Peugeot 308 came in third place with a total of 13.933 points, only 53 points less than the runner-up of the AUTOBEST 2023 competition.  Detailed results will be listed in the Final Ranking section on www.autobest.org.

“All-New Austral wins the AUTOBEST 2023 award. This is a great pride and recognition for all the Renault teams who worked on the project (from design, engineering, the Palencia plant, sales and the network). The 31 members AUTOBEST Jury from 31 countries clearly understood that our new C-segment SUV is the perfect synthesis of the best of both worlds: an electric vehicle for city driving and an extremely efficient hybrid engine capable of covering long distances without recharging. With OpenR Link and Google Automotive Services, Austral also offers the best in services, connectivity and applications to provide an immersive and intuitive driving experience.” stated Renault COO, Fabrice Cambolive

„Our winner of this year is representing the next level of Renault brand. It is the best product yet of the French maker, with high end materials, very high perceived quality, superb driving abilities, an impressive design and probably the best-connected technologies on board of automobiles today. Is benefiting from the E Tech full hybrid engines, one of our previous winners of TECHNOBEST award. Out of the 6 finalists of this edition, Austral managed to impress most of the members of the largest European independent motoring media Jury by the number of represented countries, with many placing it on top of their vote. With this victory, Renault is making a great come back to the top of our competition, becoming the `Best Buy Car of Europe in 2023`!declared Dan Vardie, Founder & Chairman of the AUTOBEST organization.

For the third time, AUTOBEST organized successfully the Final Test in Teesdorf, Austria, at the end of November. This edition was coming after the first two organized under the very severe sanitary conditions due to the pandemic times, with Austria been in a total lockdown of the country. Been the first edition organized without restrictions, the vast majority of the AUTOBEST Jury members participated to a very successful on-road and on-track driving sessions. Having the professional help of our friends from OAMTC proving ground in Teesdorf, AUTOBEST managed to organize the most complex set of tests available in motoring media today.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is the winner of ECOBEST 2023 award. The new Hyundai model is a ground-breaking new EV that brings concept car thinking to European showrooms from early 2023. The ultra-aerodynamic philosophy takes low-drag ideals to a new level, a concept that not only offers an electric range of more than 600km, but also delivering striking streamliner styling that is guaranteed to stand out. This bold, intelligent new Hyundai is an authentic piece of technology, totally deserving ECOBEST 2023 winner.

For the `TECHNOBEST 2023`, the AUTOBEST Jury decided for this edition to not grant this award dedicated to the classical automotive technologies. The other awards for 2023 been already announced – please visit www.autobest.org

The 22nd AUTOBEST Awards Gala will take place on May 11-th, 2023, as a first in Rotterdam, Nederland. Following the tradition, the AUTOBEST European Jury will present the awards in a different country each year. The 21-st AUTOBEST Gala was held on June 9-th, 2022 near Strasbourg, France.

The European AUTOBEST Jury thanks the readers from all over Europe for encouraging the project and the various PR departments responsible in the automotive industry for providing all the support in organising meetings and drive tests of the new products.

About AUTOBEST

The AUTOBEST organisation was created in 2001 with the revolutionary concept of finding the ‘Best Buy Car’ available on the European market. For a car to become an AUTOBEST winner, it must represent the best offer for most European customers. Price, service network, spare parts distribution and versatility are the most important criteria in the voting process. Design and new technologies are also becoming a more critical factor for voting. AUTOBEST uses a transparent voting system, with a complex matrix of 13 criteria to decide the winner.
