AUTOBEST is announcing the next Gala Awards in Brussels
AUTOBEST is joining forces with the Spanish Comparative Test for EVs
AUTOBEST is pleased to announce that the 18th AUTOBEST Awards Gala will take place on 7 February 2019. This follows the announcement at the last Gala in Salzburg that confirmed Brussels as the host city of the 2019 Gala. It is the first time in AUTOBEST’s history that the date and location have been decided so far in advance.
In keeping with the tradition of AUTOBEST, each Gala is held in a different member country each year, making a complete rotation every 31 years to reflect the current composition of the jury. Next year, Brussels, the capital of Europe, will host the gala for the first time.
The Final Test will take place on 27-28 November 2018, at the Vairano proving ground near Milan, Italy. This FIA homologated facility is owned by leading Italian automotive magazine, Quattroruote. The publication is also represented in the Jury by Alessio Viola, Chief Road Test Editor. As per AUTOBEST rules, each country has just one jury member who is a leading motoring writer in their home nation.
Later this year, the AUTOBEST jury will join forces with Spanish representative, Joan Dalmau of www.coches.net, in the annual EV Comparative Test. Established in 2014, Joan and his team pioneered one of the very first comparative tests for full EVs, giving the consumers in Spain valuable information on the performance, autonomy, recharging times and other useful detail. Since its launch, TOM TOM, El Periodico and Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya have become partners.
This year the EV Comparative Test is scheduled to take place on 10-12 July in Barcelona. Through the AUTOBEST Jury members’ media channels in 31 countries, the results of the test will be published to a significant number of European consumers, who are highly interested in the real performance of the zero-emission vehicles. To date, most of the producers of EVs with sales in Europe have confirmed their participation.
We are pleased to welcome three new jury members. Alessio Viola replaces Gian Luca Pellegrini in representing Italy. Alessio commented: “It is a great honour and privilege to represent Quattroruote in the Autobest jury, a very interesting prize, more and more important and highly considered in this sector. Moreover, it’s useful to meet other nations’ colleagues to widen my knowledge and horizons.”
Markus Rutishauser, Editor in Chief of ACS Auto Magazine and the new member representing Switzerland. He is replacing Philippe Aeberli. Speaking about his appointment, Markus said: “For me, the automobile is tradition, enthusiasm, passion and never-ending love – but also a sense of responsibility towards the earth and its resources. I am looking forward to contributing my experience and independent opinion to the expert jury of AUTOBEST.”
Petr Menshikh, the Editor of leading Russian Za Rulem magazine, joins the AUTOBEST Jury replacing Maxim Kadakov. “I am honoured to be a member of AUTOBEST Jury. I will make my contribution and look forward to work together with colleagues in the European Jury to help develop the project of AUTOBEST,” said Petr.

About AUTOBEST
The AUTOBEST organisation was established in 2001 with the revolutionary concept of “best buy car” available on the European market. A total of 31 European nations is now represented in the Jury, covering the vast majority of the European population. For a car to become an AUTOBEST winner, it must represent the best offering for most European customers. Price, service network, spare parts distribution and versatility are the most important criteria in the voting process. Design and new technologies are becoming important criteria for voting. AUTOBEST uses a transparent voting system, with a complex matrix of 13 criteria to decide the winner.
