Autobest revealed the final results of the world’s real traffic test of mainstream EVs which was held from November 4th to 6th, 2021. The 15 best-selling EV models in the European market –from multiple brands such as Volkswagen, Cupra, Nissan, Dacia, Renault, Honda, Mazda. Fiat, Opel, Peugeot, Citroen, Kia and Hyundai participated in the test, achieved up to 90% of WLTP range in real conditions, especially they can go up to 37.8 km even when the battery reserve indication is showing zero.
The final result announcement ceremony of the “ECOBEST Challenge – Electrified by VinFast” was a virtual event, with the participation of the AUTOBEST Organizing Committee and VinFast sponsor representatives, in the presence of dozens of prestigious press units in Europe.
Accordingly, all the cars in test shown more than 75% real range out of WLTP reference. This is a standard developed by the European Union that provides energy efficiency assessments for gasoline, diesel, electric and hybrid vehicles. In particular, 5 cars out of 15 achieved more than 90 % of WLTP range.
The tests were organized independently with a consistent method to all vehicles. According to the evaluation of the AUTOBEST Organizing Committee and the Jury board including experts from 32 countries in Europe, the final results represent a good average level, a very reliable reference for all the EV’s in the test. All the results of the test will be published widely in Europe, offered to the consumers as a strong reality basis in their decision making process.
Joan Dalmau, coches.net creative writer and Spanish AUTOBEST Jury member explained: “We were surprised by some cars that achieved a real range close to WLTP range figures. The real range obtained in the test shows EVs had become a perfect alternative in urban environment”.
In particular, the information that is of most interest to consumers is the battery capacity that has given positive results. All models are driven under different terrain, traffic and actual driving habits, until reaching the indication of 0% battery! In all the 15 cars tested, between 14 km and almost 37.8 km of real range was left, which is sending an incredible relief to all the people driving. However, AUTOBEST is recommending to keep this as a strategic reserve of the battery and better never enter in the situation to use it.
”We believe ECOBEST Challenge is a huge step forward in understanding the reality of traffic in driving EV’s. With the unique figures of real range after the `Zero battery indication` on the cluster, we want to send a clear message that that EVs can still continue to move within a positive range after officially being unable to move anymore. At AUTOBEST we are convinced, by 2025 we will have cars easily reaching more than 10-12 km/ Kwh of battery”, said Dan Vardie, Founder & Chairman of AUTOBEST.
Collaborate with AUTOBEST, VinFast – a smart EV company from Vietnam said that this was one of its global strategic activities, affirming its thoughtful and methodical investment in the EV field. Bich Tran, CEO of VinFast Europe added:
